Beckhoff Automation and integration partner Interior Automation won for their work on the upgrade of lighting controls at Gatwick Airport.  The judges were extremely impressed with Beckhoff’s innovative solution which helps Gatwick Airport engineers to manage and maintain the lighting of the building in the more efficient way, using a single hardware platform.

The Gatwick estate included upwards of 15 lighting control solutions which operated autonomously. As a result, opportunities for monitoring and reporting were limited, which reduced the flexibility to allow future changes. Beckhoff’s installation introduced the benefits of good lighting control as well as future-proof flexibility for continuous developments within the building.

Beckhoff Automation used Interior Automation’s (IA’s) BuildingSight software, which utilised the existing DALI or DSI cabling and network infrastructure to provide real-time monitoring of the connected lighting. The upgrade now allows Gatwick Airport engineers to monitor energy usage directly at the electrical panels.

Dave Lister, Divisional Manager at Beckhoff Automation, said: “We are thrilled to be winner at this year’s BCIA Awards. The Gatwick project required immediate changes to meet and exceed current standards and to improve the overall operation of the building. The new upgrade now allows engineers to provide quick, infinitely flexible and cost efficient future developments of BMS.”
